Gourmet Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
Ingredients:
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 to 1 1/2 cups mix-ins (chocolate chips, chopped nuts, etc.)
Instructions:
Brown the Butter:
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, continue to cook, swirling the pan occasionally until the butter turns a golden brown color and has a nutty aroma. Be careful not to burn it. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Mix the Wet Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined and smooth.
Add Eggs and Vanilla:
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Combine Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Add Mix-Ins:
Fold in your choice of mix-ins, such as chocolate chips or chopped nuts.
Form Cookie Dough Balls:
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of cookie dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space between each.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may still be soft, but they will firm up as they cool.
Cool:
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
