Gourmet Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups mix-ins (chocolate chips, chopped nuts, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. Brown the Butter:

    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, continue to cook, swirling the pan occasionally until the butter turns a golden brown color and has a nutty aroma. Be careful not to burn it. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  1. Mix the Wet Ingredients:

    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined and smooth.

  1. Add Eggs and Vanilla:

    • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients:

    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

  1. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients:

    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  1. Add Mix-Ins:

    • Fold in your choice of mix-ins, such as chocolate chips or chopped nuts.

  1. Form Cookie Dough Balls:

    • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of cookie dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space between each.

  1. Bake:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may still be soft, but they will firm up as they cool.

  1. Cool:

    • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
