Nutella Hand Pies

Ingredients:

For the Pastry:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup ice water

For Filling:

  • Nutella (as much as desired)

For Assembly:

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions:

For the Pastry:

  1. Prepare Pastry Dough:

    • In a food processor, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  1. Add Ice Water:

    • Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, and pulse until the dough just begins to come together.

  1. Form Dough:

    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it just enough to bring it together into a smooth ball. Divide the dough in half, shape each half into a disk, wrap them in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

For Assembly:

  1. Preheat Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  1. Roll Out Dough:

    • Roll out one of the chilled pastry disks on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness.

  1. Cut Out Shapes:

    • Using a round cookie cutter or any desired shape, cut out shapes for the hand pies. Repeat with the second disk.

  1. Add Nutella:

    • Place a small dollop of Nutella in the center of half of the cut-out shapes, leaving a border around the edges.

  1. Create Pies:

    • Place the remaining shapes on top of the Nutella-filled shapes. Press the edges to seal, and use a fork to crimp the edges.

  1. Egg Wash:

    • Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the hand pies for a golden finish.

  1. Bake:

    • Place the hand pies on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

  1. Cool:

    • Allow the Nutella hand pies to cool on a wire rack.

  1. Dust with Powdered Sugar (Optional):

    • If desired, dust the cooled hand pies with powdered sugar before serving.
