Nutella Hand Pies
Ingredients:
For the Pastry:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup ice water
For Filling:
Nutella (as much as desired)
For Assembly:
1 egg (for egg wash)
Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions:
For the Pastry:
Prepare Pastry Dough:
In a food processor, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add Ice Water:
Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, and pulse until the dough just begins to come together.
Form Dough:
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it just enough to bring it together into a smooth ball. Divide the dough in half, shape each half into a disk, wrap them in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
For Assembly:
Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll Out Dough:
Roll out one of the chilled pastry disks on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness.
Cut Out Shapes:
Using a round cookie cutter or any desired shape, cut out shapes for the hand pies. Repeat with the second disk.
Add Nutella:
Place a small dollop of Nutella in the center of half of the cut-out shapes, leaving a border around the edges.
Create Pies:
Place the remaining shapes on top of the Nutella-filled shapes. Press the edges to seal, and use a fork to crimp the edges.
Egg Wash:
Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the hand pies for a golden finish.
Bake:
Place the hand pies on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
Cool:
Allow the Nutella hand pies to cool on a wire rack.
Dust with Powdered Sugar (Optional):
If desired, dust the cooled hand pies with powdered sugar before serving.
