Pig Candy

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb thick-cut bacon

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

  • 2 tablespoons bourbon

  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a bit of heat)

  • Chopped pecans or your favorite nuts (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  1. Prepare the Bacon:

    • Arrange the bacon slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Ensure the slices don't overlap.

  1. Make the Glaze:

    • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, maple syrup, bourbon, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir continuously until the brown sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture is well combined.

  1. Brush the Bacon:

    • Brush the glaze generously over each bacon slice, coating them evenly. If you're using nuts, you can sprinkle them over the glazed bacon.

  1. Bake:

    • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the bacon is crispy, and the glaze is caramelized.

  1. Cool and Set:

    • Allow the Bourbon Pig Candy to cool on the baking sheet. The glaze will set as it cools, creating a sweet and crispy coating.

  1. Slice or Break into Pieces:

    • Once cooled, you can either slice the bacon into smaller strips or break it into bite-sized pieces.

  1. Serve and Enjoy:

    • Serve the Bourbon Pig Candy as a snack, appetizer, or a unique addition to a charcuterie board.

Tips:

  • Experiment with different types of bourbon to explore varied flavor profiles.

  • If you prefer a smokier flavor, you can add a pinch of smoked paprika to the glaze.

  • Adjust the sweetness and heat levels according to your taste preferences.
